Canopy Tours |
| |
Canopy tours have become one of the
most popular day adventures in Costa Rica, offering you
a lifetime experience. You will enjoy spectacular views
and a new and different way to observe the nature, sliding
in suspension cables from platform to platform over the
forest while enjoying the tropical rainforest. Some canopy
tours also include rappel or a Tarzan swing.
The number of platforms and the length of the cables
will depend of each canopy tour and the location, but
you definitively will not forget the amazing view from
the top of the trees, plus the opportunity to observe
rainforest animals and the forest. Also canopy tours
can be combined with horse back riding, hiking tours,
suspension bridge excursions and other activities.
These tours are available from most of the tourist destinations
and at different times during the day. |

Volcanoes Tours |
Costa Rica has many
volcanoes and some of them are active. Arenal Volcano
is the most active one and this is why it has become
one of the more famous. But also you can take organized
tours to Poas Volcano, Irazu Volcano or Rincon de
la Vieja Volcano; and also to Rio Celeste (Light-blue
River), a close place to Tenorio Volcano, where,
after trekking through the rainforest, you will
enjoy natural mineral hot springs and a waterfall.
You can choose to only visit the volcano or take
a combined tour, choosing other adventure or leisure
activities such as waterfalls garden, butterfly
gardens, hiking tours, horse back riding, visits
to traditional towns where you can buy souvenirs,
boat trips or hot springs. Most of the volcanoes
are located in zones declared National Parks.
The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the
Americas and you will have the opportunity to take
a hike tour to observe the lava rock fields from
previous eruptions. The Poas Volcano is one of the
world's largest geysers with an awesome crater,
over 1.5 km wide. This volcano is active and is
surrounded by rich tropical vegetation and animal
life.
From the Irazu Volcano, on a clear day you can actually
see the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It has two
craters, the western mouth that stretches 1050 meters
in diameter and about 300 meters deep with a lake
at the bottom that changes color.
Rincon
de la Vieja is also an active volcano. At the
surrounding areas you will find trails for hiking,
hot springs, mud pots, sulfur lakes, other interesting
formation and a spectacular waterfall. |

Hiking / Rain Forest Tours |
Costa Rica has
been described as “Heaven on Earth”
by some of the people that have visited our country.
With approximately 25% of Costa Rican territory
protected: National Parks, Biological Reserves,
Wildlife Refuges and other government and private
protected areas you will have the unique experience
of being in contact with the forest and experience
an encounter with nature, its amazing rainforest,
animals and great biodiversity.
Hiking tours can be done from many destinations
in Costa Rica and the length of time can be from
30 minutes walking by your own in short trails,
to guided tours through primary or secondary forest
and multi-day tours for a rain forest adventure
at the Corcovado area.
Corcovado National Park, located in the Osa Peninsula,
is one of the last large untouched rainforests
left in Costa Rica. The Osa Peninsula is known
for offering a great hiking or trekking options
through lush tropical rainforest, wild animal
and bird viewing. Depending on your schedule and
fitness level you can go on an all day hiking
tour to Corcovado National Park or on a leisurely
stroll along the beach. There are also several
beautiful deserted beaches and waterfalls that
are just a few hours hike from the
resorts. Common sightings include scarlet
macaws, monkeys, iguanas, sloths and a wide variety
of plants, amphibians and insects.
Hiking / trekking tours trough the rain forest
or looking for waterfalls, as well as bird watching,
are often combined with other adventure or leisure
activities in each area. You can enjoy an Arenal Volcano hike and later continue to a leisure afternoon
at the hot springs, or join a horse back riding
tour; in Manuel
Antonio or Corcovado after a hiking tour you can swim at the ocean
or take a sunbath; in Monteverde you can enjoy the butterfly or hummingbird gardens
after exploring the cloud forest; in many destinations
the hiking is combined with the canopy tours and
horseback riding activities.
From Monteverde and Corcovado you can take night tours, which introduce you
to an exciting and magical place, surrounded by
the night sounds and the new life in the forest.
Another optional tour is the hanging bridges,
available from Arenal and Monteverde areas, known also as walkways tour.
This activity allows you to enjoy a truly amazing
walk through the jungle with spectacular views,
exploring the forest canopy in a new manner.
If you rather not to walk but still want to enjoy
the forest, from some destinations you can take
horseback riding tour, boat safaris or the aerial
tram tour. Available from San Jose, going to the
Caribbean side of our country, the aerial tram
gives you the opportunity to observe the tropical
rain forest canopies. Ride in a silent gondola
viewing the sub canopy (middle part of the forest),
the upper canopy and its hanging gardens, discovering
plants and forms of life that are usually hidden
in the forest treetops and a great biological
diversity. On this tour also you will be taken
on a nature walk. Available also from the area
of Jaco, the tour offers an interesting and exuberant
forest and scenic views of small waterfalls and
the Pacific Coast
